Spell: Dualities in Motion
August 28, 2025
Spell’s journey as an artist is one of contrasts, between tradition and modernity, silence and noise, design and art. Born in India and now based in Abu Dhabi, his work reflects the push and pull of these worlds, each piece carrying fragments of memory and emotion.
“Growing up in India, I was surrounded by vibrant traditions, culture, and emotional storytelling,”
His earliest influences came from his father, also an artist, whose work he copied before finding his own voice through regional films and diverse cultural textures. The move to Abu Dhabi brought a different kind of influence.“I was suddenly in a world of modernity, silence, structure, and corporate aesthetics. My corporate life here hasn’t been easy, and over the last 14 years, that emotional weight started reflecting in my work.”
The result is an art practice defined by duality, holding opposites together in layered visual stories.
From Design to NFTs
Originally trained as a graphic designer, Spell chose a pragmatic path to support his family. But the confines of commercial work left him restless, searching for ways to keep his inner artist alive. That changed in 2021 when a friend introduced him to NFTs. On July 14, 2021, he minted his first piece on Foundation.

“That moment gave me the space I had been looking for, a space to express myself,” His design background provided technical fluency, but NFTs gave him something more important: connection.“The real shift came when people connected emotionally with my work. That response fueled me. I could not stop creating.”
Collaboration and Community
A defining moment came when legendary digital artist XCOPY remixed one of his works in FACETS-X under a CC0 license.“Not even in my wildest dreams did I expect that. I was one of just five artists he collaborated with, and I’ll always be grateful for that moment.”
The collaboration brought new visibility while affirming the value of open creativity.
“It motivated me to give back to the community by creating more and staying consistent.”
Layers of Emotion
Emotion runs through Spell’s work in subtle but deliberate ways, hidden in textures, quiet shifts of color, or the posture of a character. He rarely prescribes meaning.
“I believe each person will feel something different based on their own journey, if someone really feels it, they’ll connect with it instantly. That connection means more to me than any explanation.”
Looking Ahead
Spell refuses to stay fixed in one style.“Honestly, I can’t even predict what kind of art I’ll be creating six months from now”
Recently, he has begun weaving AI into his creative process, expanding his toolkit while keeping emotion at the center.
“For me, art is an emotional journey. I don’t want to tie myself to a certain color or format. It’s a free world, and we have the ability to create whatever we want.”
Spell’s practice continues to evolve in this space between opposites, tradition and innovation, design and art. What remains constant is the emotional depth that draws viewers in, reminding us that digital art is not just about technology, but about what we feel when we encounter it.
